Kiwi Basecamp, Christchurch – my first home in New Zealand

It’s a wonderful day. The sun is shining. We are sitting in the courtyard and enjoying the day. The breakfast is free and they are making fresh bread. It tastes wonderful. I had four slices. My last meal was yesterday at 3:00pm, so I was really hungry.
After that I took one of the free to rent bikes and went into the city. I had a short look at two Backpacker car markets. I saw some good offers, but I haven’t decided yet. At the City Mall I bought two bottles of wine. Back in the city centre I bought a 2degrees prepaid card and made an appointment for Monday to sign up my bank account at the Kiwibank.
During my short walk through the City I was so happy, I had to cry a bit. It’s so amazing I’m in New Zealand, I really can’t believe it.
Going back to the hostel I stopped at an organic market and bought some fruit. New Zealand especially Christchurch is not half as expensive as Sydney. In fact they are quite cheap.

In the afternoon I made friends with a nice New Zealand guy and a girl from Kopenhagen. Later on some girls wanted to go to the supermarket and we decided to go with them. The supermarket is really big. We bought wine and beer – the essential stuff. Our shopping finished, the guys and I waited under a very hot New Zealand sun for the girls to open the van. Of course the girls needed more time for shopping ;o) On our way back we had a beer and I learned about the „double fisting“. In America it means to drink holding two drinks – one in each hand. Crazy Americans, in other countries you are going to be offending when you say it.
Back from the supermarket we all sat on the terace and had a couple of drinks. Later on almost everyone from the hostel went into the city. There is a nice area with clubs and bars. We danced, had a lot of drinks and much fun.
