Hanmer Springs, Hanmer Backpackers Hostel

Today we dropped E. at the airport and with it our English teacher and Kiwi guide left the city. I’m going to miss him.
After the goodbye N. and I headed to Hanmer Springs. It’s very hot outside, Harry’s external thermometer said 30 degrees. Nevertheless we had a pleasant journey with lots of girls‘ gossip and fun.

In Hanmer Spring we are staying in the Hanmer Backpackers Hostel, one as a Couchsurfer for free the other as a normal guest for 27$. Because we share the costs it is 13,50$ each – quite cheap.
The owner is a very friendly dutch guy and the hostel is more like a small guest house, cosy, clean and comfortable.

After check in we went for a hiking trek to a waterfall. The way was very steep and therefore exhausting but we saw lots of birds and had great views to the surrounding landscape. During breaks sitting beside the river I gave N. lessons on how to handle her new camera. We discussed the influence of different light situations, how to shape a fore- and background and how to play with perspectives. Only the little flies and mosquito’s were annoying and we had to move on. Finally arriving at the waterfall we were the only visitors, so we had a shower under the pouring water. It was very cold but exciting.

Back in the village we had a short walk to the supermarket and the hot pools. The supermarket was closed and the convenience store was expensive so we cooked dinner with our remaining food – pasta, vegetables, tuna and handmade garlic baguette – delicious!

Later in the evening we met three dutch guys who told us their adventures. They did the bungee jumping in Queenstown – awesome! Unfortunately our talking disturbed an older guy who is also guest in the hostel. He was very angry he could not sleep, so we had to stop talking and go to bed.
