At last I arrived in Hastings, Hawkes Bay and moved into my „apartment“. It’s one room with a kitchen and some old furniture, a toilet, a shower and a tiny hallway. Better than nothing and it’s for free.
The drive to Picton to catch the Interislander wasn’t very exciting. Picton is a small town with around ten old buildings and many newer tourist ones. We made one round through the city center and because it was raining we stayed in Harry and just looked out of the windows.
The first and longer part of the cruise to the North Island leads through Malborough Sounds, a huge area of little Islands and winding sounds. It was raining again and compared to Milford not too exciting, so for the first time in New Zealand I found myself sitting down, drinking a coffee and listening to an audio book.
Arriving in Wellington, we went to the city center to get some dinner. E. used to live in Wellington during university and recommended a great little Malaysian restaurant with really good food for a very good price. Walking through Wellington was like coming home to Berlin, Kreuzberg only much warmer, even with the relentless wind. Little Cafés, bars, shops and a colorful selection of people filling the streets. You can sit in a Café just to watch all the different people – just like home. I have to come back here at least for a long weekend!
